CBRS (Citizen Broadband Radio Service)

As of April 2016, the U.S. FCC allows anyone to use the 3.5 GHz frequency previously used by the U.S. Navy as shared spectrum freely (public frequency) like Wi-Fi, enabling CBRS (Citizens Broadband Radio Service)

services. Infinite new markets and opportunities are created by the opening of frequencies that have been previously monopolized by mobile carriers.

FCC has limited the maximum output power of base station to be under 1W (CAT-A) and 50W (CAT-B) to avoid the interference to the legacy radar system, and thus CBRS network has to be deployed using Small Cells as main equipment.

The use of new unlicensed and shared frequencies (CBRS, 3.5GHz) is permitted in the US market, which has the greatest demand for 4G/5G, ANY companies such as fixed cable operators/internet operators/private network will be able to provide LTE/5G services without the permission of the MNO(Mobile Network Operator) that has the exclusive right to use the spectrum or without paying a fee to government through the spectrum auction.

Before unlicensed spectrum was allowed to use, it was impossible to enter the telecommunication business due to the huge investment cost required to deploy nationwide wireless network and license cost to use licensed spectrum(Frequency).

CBRS is a band of radio-frequency spectrum from 3.5GHz to 3.7GHz that has been allocated in the US for not only traditional operators and cable companies, but also non-traditional players such as Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs) and enterprises spanning the utility, energy, manufacturing and agricultural industries

The business structure of the CBRS market has been reorganized into various markets as shown in the figure below.
